Sport HistorySports Development Programme Read moreSports Development Programme CloseThat sport should be part of the Withington Girls' School curriculum was in the very foundation principles when the School was founded in 1890: 'There should be more physical exercise... than usual in girls’ schools’. A principle that was established from the early days of the School and continues to this day. In an exciting day in the history of Withington Girls’ School we celebrated the official opening by Dame Sarah Storey DBE of our new Sport & Fitness Centre in July 2018. We want all our pupils to enjoy sport and fitness during their time at Withington, whatever their skill level, developing their abilities and improving their fitness whilst doing an activity they enjoy. The new WGS Sport & Fitness Centre allows the girls to have more choice and space within curriculum PE and encourages greater participation and enjoyment in extracurricular sport and exercise. Inside, the new building is light and airy with some beautiful design features and a Sports Club feeling. The ground floor comprises a dedicated sports reception area, smart new changing rooms, lockers and PE office. Upstairs there is a Mind and Body Studio, intended to be a multi-use space for activities such as dance, martial arts and yoga, and an extensive Fitness Suite packed with state-of-the-art fitness equipment. We are proud of these new sporting facilities which will take sport to the next level, help motivate our pupils to get active and help to build on our strong sporting tradition. |
